Stars from the world of football and rugby will join pupils from Year 9 at Malet Lambert School and Rosie Winterton MP, Minister for Regional Economic Development and Coordination, for the launch of the Hull Enterprise Academy on Friday 3 July.
The academy will take business out of the boardroom and into the classroom, giving young football and rugby fans a chance to learn about enterprise using real examples that they can relate to and understand.
Launching the scheme at the KC stadium, Rosie Winterton will take part in a session with ex Hull football player, Andy McMillan and current Doncaster Rugby league player, Alex Benson. They will be joined by Hull City AFC star Nick Barmby who has agreed to be Hull's Enterprise Champion.
Hull City is the sixth Premier League football club and Hull FC is the first rugby club to launch the programme, which follows a commitment to promote enterprise education through sports clubs launched last year in the Government's Enterprise Strategy.
The class will bring enterprise to life for year 9 students from the Malet Lambert Language College - giving them a unique insight into the day to day running of exciting multi-national businesses.
The Enterprise Academy has been made possible with support from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, the Premier League, Hull City Council and funding from Yorkshire Forward.
Rosie Winterton MP, Minister for Regional Economic Development and Coordination, said:
"Enterprise has the power to inspire young people and create a 'can do' culture, something which is key to the UK's future growth and success in the current economic climate.
"Using real football and rugby club examples, this Enterprise Academy will teach young people how to manage a budget, raise finance and look after customers - essential skills for any young entrepreneur."
Cllr Christine Randall, portfolio holder for education and children's services, said:
"Hull City Council is pleased to be involved in the city's new and exciting enterprise programme, launched in the same week that Hull is recognised as Yorkshire's most enterprising city. As a council we believe that it is important to help develop our young people to become more enterprising and to bring to the city activities that will bring make this a reality."
