Youth theatre groups from across Hull will perform at the Hull Truck Theatre
over two nights as part of the Humber Mouth Literature Festival.

The Creative Voice Youth Theatre Platform involves young people from the
city who have been working on a two year programme of youth theatre
development, funded by Arts Council England. Performances take place on
Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 July, where the best of youth theatre in the city
will be on show.

Ruth Drake, youth arts co-ordinator, said:

"This event is one of the highlights of an ongoing youth theatre development
programme. Creative Voice provides young people with something to work
towards and this year they have been able to work with a writer to develop
their own scripts."

Monday 6 July features specially commissioned scripts from writer Morgan
Sproxton and drama tutor Kathryn Lee, which have been devised with young
dramatists with something to say, reflecting the issues and humour of their
lives.

Performances start at 7pm:

The Lost Boy
The West Hull Youth Theatre Group presents the story of Jake, a cool and
popular teenager who seems to "have it all" including an ability to click
his fingers and make magical things happen. Over the course of a day Jake
comes to terms with a tragedy in his past and lays a few ghosts to rest.

Who am I?
Northcott Special School examines the big questions in life: who am I? What
do I want to be? Where am I going? In conjunction with Spin Off Theatre
Company, this piece takes a fresh look at some age-old questions with
surprising and inspiring results.

Canteen
Inspired by the day to day happenings in the school canteen, Malet Lambert
students present this play which looks at the secretive world of eating
disorders as we join Carol, weatherworn head dinner lady, over the course of
a lunch hour. Kathryn Lee directs.

Tuesday 7 July features Hull Truck Youth Theatre with "Baby Blues" by Mark
Rees, a hard hitting contemporary look at teenage pregnancy and its
aftermath.  The performance starts at 7pm.

Young people from St Michael's youth centre, who have been working with Act
Now, will also be performing on the night along with Tweendykes and Ganton
Special schools, who have been working with Spin Off Productions to put
together their own exciting pieces.

These events are free and tickets are available from the Hull Truck Theatre
box office by calling 323638.
