A recent survey has shown that people in Hull are amongst the happiest in
the country when it comes to travelling round the city.

Hull City Council is in the top five of unitary authorities for nine out of
26 categories in the 2009 National Highways and Transport Public
Satisfaction survey.  These are:

1st for overall satisfaction with local bus services 1st for both general
satisfaction by regular and occasional users of local bus services 1st for
local public transport information 3rd for ease of access to key services
for households without cars 3rd for satisfaction with traffic management 4th
for overall ease of access to key services 5th for satisfaction with
specific aspects of cycle routes and facilities 5th for satisfaction with
the management of road works

When evaluated against all types of local authorities, including county
councils and London boroughs, Hull made it to the top five for satisfaction
with:
* local bus services
* specific aspects of cycle routes and facilities
* traffic management

It was the first year that Hull City Council had participated in the annual
public satisfaction survey, which is organised by the National Highways and
Public Transport Network. This year, a total of 76 local authorities took
part over 370,000 questionnaires issued nationwide.  Approximately 6,500
questionnaires were sent to randomly selected residents in Hull asking them
to give their views on the city's highways and transport services.

Councillor Dave Woods, portfolio holder for environmental sustainability,
said:

"We decided to get involved with the survey to help understand and act on
the views of our road and public transport users.  It was very encouraging
to learn that we scored highly in so many categories.  I would like to thank
all residents who returned their survey forms because your feedback is vital
to helping the council improve across all categories and enable us to
deliver the best possible all round service."

Councillor Mike Ross, portfolio holder for customer and neighbourhood
services, added:

"I am pleased that the services we provide are being well received, but we
know there is still much more to do.  That is why we have recently increased
the amount of attention on road and pavement repairs, with the creation of
new teams to tackle problems like potholes across the city.  We know already
that local residents have been pleased with the action we have taken on this
important issue."
