A 12 year old Hull boy has been given an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO)
after causing nuisance and harassing the local community.
Sonny Grainger, from the city's Boothferry estate, was given the ASBO by
Hull Magistrates' Court on 12 June following a joint application from
Citysafe's Anti Social Behaviour Team and Humberside Police.
Over the past year, Sonny had been harassing and causing a nuisance to
residents living on the Boothferry Estate by starting fires, throwing
stones, being verbally abusive and using threatening behaviour to people
along with damaging vehicles and property.
Despite the attempts made by Citysafe, Humberside Police and other partners
to rectify Sonny's behaviour, he failed to make any improvements. As a final
course of action, Citysafe and Humberside Police decided to apply for an
ASBO. As part of their investigations many separate complainants came
forward to give evidence and support the ASBO application.
The order stands for two years and it prohibits Sonny from the following:
1. Acting, or inciting others to act, in an anti social manner (a manner
that causes, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress or harassment).
2. Associating with Ricky Jordan, Joe Wilson, Ryan Miller and Jonathon
Garner.
3. Entering the streets of Elgar Road, Surrey Garth, Walsall Garth,
Portsmouth Walk, Mollison Road, Bethune Avenue and Gower Road.
4. Associating in groups of five or more unless at an organised and
supervised event.
5. Carrying a stick, stone, matches or cigarettes lighter in a public place.
6. Being anywhere but his home address between 10pm and 7am or at an
alternative address or location agreed in advance with a named police
officer.
7. Driving or riding in any motor vehicle or encouraging others to take part
in the driving or riding of any motor vehicle.
8. Causing (or threatening or attempting to cause) damage to others'
property or premises.
Justine Mortimer, Citysafe's anti social behaviour manager, said: "The
evidence from witnesses in the community were vital in helping to secure the
ASBO in an attempt to stop Sonny's increasingly poor behaviour.
"Hull residents have a right to live their lives in a safe, secure and
peaceful environment. Anti social behaviour like Sonny's will not be
tolerated by Hull City Council and Humberside Police and we will take
action.
"I hope that this will encourage other people who are suffering anti social
behaviour in their community to come forward and report it."
Since the orginal anti social behaviour order was issued, the conditions had
to be further updated after Sonny breached the order.
PC Trevor Needham, Neighbourhood Beat Officer from Boothferry Estate: said:
"Sonny Grainger has already breached his ASBO within two hours of receiving
the papers, when he was seen on Bethune Avenue by the local PCSO for the
area.
"He then went on to commit additional breaches the following day and was
subsequently arrested and charged for the breaches. As a result the courts
imposed conditional bail for three months which extends Sonny Grainger's
curfew. He now has to be at his home address to between 20:00 - 07:00hrs
where as the previous ASBO condition was from 22:00hrs. This further
restricts Sonny's movements.
"If he continues to disregard his restrictions he will find himself in a
secure young offenders unit."
Any breaches to these orders should be reported to Humberside Police on 0845
6060222.
