hullfc4inarowHull FC continued their unbeaten start with their fourth win in a row when they beat Huddersfield Giants 24-20 at the Galpharm Stadium.

Against an in form Giants outfit this was an outstanding win for Head Coach Richard Agar’s men and the final score isn’t a fair reflection of their overall performance.

Hull went behind with two minutes gone when a kick to the corner by Luke Robinson saw the ball bounce away from Tom Briscoe and into the hands of Giants full back Brett Hodgson who dived in.

Briscoe then made up for his error six minutes later when Hull capitalised on a Martin Aspinwall knock on inside his own 20.

Hull took the ball in before Shaun Berrigan and Chris Thorman combined for Craig Hall to send the winger in and Danny Tickle landed a magnificent touchline goal.

Hull the extended their lead through man of the match Richard Horne on the back of an offside against Andy Raleigh. The move looked to have little momentum until Willie Manu’s pass out of the back door saw the stand off step his way through to the line for a wonderful try and Tickle again goaled.

Huddersfield got back into the game just before the half hour when on the back of a couple of penalties Hull paid the price when Joe Walsh powered through from five metres out for a try on his Giants Super League debut. Brett Hodgson goaled to put the Giants back to within two points at 12-10.

Eight minutes from the break Hull increased their lead back to eight points when a Richard Horne kick was parried back by Kirk Yeaman for substitute prop Jamie Thackray to collected and squeeze in at the corner. Tickle added another superb touchline goal for a deserved half-time lead of 18-10.

Huddersfield were always going to be a tough nut to crack as they proved in the opening minutes of the second half when Brett Hodgson sent in Kevin Brown from close range but Hodgson failed to add the conversion.

It was then Hull added further muscle to the park when new signing Sam Moa made his Super League debut with 51 minutes gone and he proved a big unit to handle.

But it was Hull who further extended their lead three minutes later when Kirk Yeaman pounced upon a Thorman kick through. For once Tickle failed to convert but was on hand to land a penalty just before the hour when Giants substitute Danny Kirmond was guilty of a grapple tackle and the second row forward landed a straight forward penalty from 35 metres out.

Yeaman was also called back for a forward pass as Manu put him away as Hull looked to add to their tally and take the game away from the home side. But on the other side of the coin tremendous tackling by Yeaman and Briscoe bundled Brett Hodgson into touch ten minutes from time.

The Giants had the final say of the game with a minute left when a superb chip over the top by Robinson saw Brown collect and his inside ball gave David Hodgson the chance to race over and score. Brett Hodgson added the conversion but it was too little too late as Hull celebrated their victory.
