Sports Roundup - March

March promised to be a busy month on the sports front, 8 superleague games, 4 premier league games, and an FA cup game. City continued their fight to stay up, FC hoping to maintain their unbeaten start to the season, and rovers now picking up the pace. Rovers won all three of their home ties, city managed one point from six at home, and fc managed no points at home. For my money, rovers are the hull team of the month taking 6 points from a possible eight. FC took 4 from 8, and city managed only 3 from 12. Craven park is a fearsome place to visit for opposition teams and fans alike. The volume of support for rovers no matter whether they are winning or losing is a tribute to the fans. Perhaps the 2 teams that call the KC home could take note of this.

Looking at the tigers first. A defeat to Arsenal albeit to an offside goal, saw the FA cup run come to an end. Not a bad thing in my opinion as Chelsea were waiting for the winners and whilst a win at Arsenal was possible, it was a big ask to defeat Chelsea as well. Free to concentrate on the league now all hopes were on gaining survival points. Blackburn denied city any points, but a very good win at Fulham recorded all 3 points in our favour. City continued to play well and took a further point at home to Newcastle. Just as fans started to think that city had turned the corner another defeat to Wigan put us on the back foot again. With the end of the season looming all is not lost, but the tigers need to score points sooner rather than later. The final game at home to Manchester United must not be vital to survival. C'mon city sort it before then.

FC walked tall into March, unbeaten, joint top, and playing well. A good win at Huddersfield followed by an amazing victory at the Grattan (I still call it Odsal) kept the unbeaten run going. A home tie against Castleford was, on paper, another 2 points however Cas had not read the script and they took both poits back down the M62. Then came the trip to London, our bogey team. Despite a bright start Hull allowed Harlequins to dominate and again travelled home empty handed. 4 from 8 isn't good, but it isn't a disaster either.

Rovers had 3 out of 4 games at home this month and took full advantage winning all 3. An impressive points total of 139 shows the standard of rugby the robins are playing, twice falling just 2 points short of the 50 mark. Sitting 5th in the league the robins are surely confident of moving higher next month.

As far as news stories go, some long running sagas continue. Crocker's visa is still unresolved, Bullard vows to do his utmost on the pitch to show his worth (if he ever gets on the pitch), and rovers look like they will miss Cockayne for some time to come.

March has not been a perfect month for our teams, but it has been far from disastrous.

April see's The Challenge cup and the Derby game. Hopefully city reaching safety, and perhaps and end to some of the media saga's.

Thanks for reading and see you next month.
