Ever since the arrival of the first cafe bar, Princes Avenue has become an increasingly popular place to go for a drink or a bite to eat. As the 'founding member', Pave has become a bit of an institution and a place I have often been for breakfast, dinneror a night out.
On this occasion, I was there for breakfast with my other half. Once the scruffy looking staff had finished their conversations, we ordered a full English breakfast and a vegetarian breakfast (the only breakfast options we were informed). We chose a table and waited 20 minutes for the food, which seems to be standard even though we were the only customers in there. The first impression of food was the emptiness of the plate with at least a third being covered with luke warm beans. The rest of my plate compromised 2 cold slices of toast, 2 rashers of cold, hard bacon, an undercooked egg and 2 sausages sat in a pool of congealed fat - the only components correctly cooked were a whole tomato and fried mushrooms. The veggie option was similar, but with 2 veggie sausages, 2 (undercooked) eggs and 2 hash browns; something that I sorely missed from my plate. Once again most things on the plate were either cold or undercooked.
Neither of us finished what we had paid over the odds for, and sat for another 25 minutes until the table was cleared, despite staff looking at the table several times, and only a handful of other customers being in there. Even when I voiced my complaints to the member of staff clearing the table he did not seem unduely worried by them - nor did the chef when he was informed.
On my previous trip to Pave, I found a slug in my chicken salad sandwich (the response for which was all the staff and chef laughing with a joke of "well it's fresh isn't it?!"), so for me, this was the last chance - and I left bitterly disappointed, especially as the food at Pave used to be well known for being resonably priced good food. I'm not sure I would risk another trip!
