It is years since I last went into The Apollo but I remember it as a nice family pub that served nice meals. I popped in a couple of days ago for tea and the verdict is, just an average pub that serves food. To be fair to the pub, it was a wet teatime on a working day so maybe I am being a little harsh. There was a lovely smell of curry as you entered and I decided to try that, my colleague had scampi. The curry turned out to be chicken tika masala and it was delicious. Served with rice, naan bread, popadum, and chutney it was as good as it smelt. The scampi was also tasty and not soggy or greasy as it so often is. The pub itself was quite empty but seemed to be spacious and although one toilet was out of order the other was clean and fresh smelling. The pub just didn’t have that family feel that I remember but perhaps on a weekend it is better. There is a large car park so you have no worries over where to leave the car. There was just nothing I could see to set it above any other pub but I will visit again on a weekend and perhaps get a completely different experience.
